A four-color flexographic printing press have hundreds of parts, but the real difference between printing success and failure is a simple roller --thethe anilment roller. Known in the industry as the "heart of the printing press," it controls the quantity and uniformity of ink transfer, ultimately determining the quality and consistency of prints. However, it is also one of the most overlooked and overlooked components of the machine. The cost of ignoring this is not just the cost of a single repair of the machine, but the scrapping of the entire order.
Why does it determine the fate of a fingerprint? Three words: quantitative ink transfer.
The core logic of flexographic printing is ``short ink path, large ink transfer volume ''. The ink in the inkjet device is not directly applied to the printing plate, but first transferred to aniline drum, aniline drum uniform, quantitative transfer to the printing plate. The the anilment roller has thousands of honeycomb-shaped hexagonal concave holes carved into its surface, each of which acts as a miniature ink container-storing ink, distributing it evenly, passing it on.
The size of the lanolin pore determines the volume of ink transfer volume. If the opening is too large, the ink layer is too thick, resulting in blurred images; if the opening is too small, the ink layer is too thin, resulting in a significant color difference. The uniformity of pores determines the uniformity of the ink layer. If any holes are blocked or deformed, the result will be an ink streak or a stain. Quaternary printing requires collimation + -0.1mm, and behind this 0.1mm is an ink that requires that the anilox roller must produce exactly the same amount of ink with each high-speed rotation. Even the slightest mistake can ruin a registration.
Choosing the wrong drum is like replacing an entire machine.
Anilox rollers is not a panacea, the wrong choice will directly cause problems. There are three core parameters: row number, angle and aspect ratio.
Line count determines ink supply. Large solid color blocks use 180 to 300 lines per inch (L/100), and the larger the cell, the higher ink capacity; small characters and fine lines use 250 to 450 L/100, and the smaller the cell, the more precise ink control. There is a golden rule to color halftone printing: the ratio the anilox roller's line count to screen ruling must be at least 4:1. Otherwise, the points would be netted, and 80% of them would blur into solid areas, rendering the ghostly shadows on the edges unrecoverable.
Angle determines ink transfer efficiency. A 60-degree hexagonal shape are industry mainstream day, with compact batteries. In the same area, it's nearly 15% more powerful than a 90-degree shaped battery, which leads to better ink transfer, less printing pressure and fewer watermarks. 90-degree ink transfers to thin strips, 120-degree ink transfer more square, both are not as stable as 60 degrees.
Aspect ratio determines ink coverage and cleaning difficulty. The best value is 28%, ranging from 23% to 33%. Above 33%, cleaning becomes difficult; below 23%, ink coverage is too low, directly affecting printing activity and tone range.
From the material point of view, ceramic laser-engraved anilox rollers is the current mainstream. Compared with chrome roller, ceramic roller hardness is higher, wear resistance is better, service life is several times the chrome roller, ink transfer is higher. Laser contactless engraving improves the shape of the battery, while dual-beam laser technology increases the ratio of lines to plates from 3:1 to 5:1 or higher, ensuring a steady flow of highly pigmented enhanced ink.
It takes only three bad habits to destroy an anilox roller.
The service life of the axle is not damaged by use, but by improper operation.
First, unfiltered. Grit in ink is the number one killer of anilox rollers. Before printing, without a filter of 100 mesh or more, and without the addition of magnets to the ink inlet, impurities circulate and wear through the ink supply system, overwhelming even the toughest ceramic layers.
Second, it's not clean. After printing, the ink in the bottom of the cartridge dry hardening, leading to the cartridge opening shrinkage, the depth of the cartridge decline, gradually reduce ink transfer. By the time the chromatic aberration was visible to the naked eye, the brown the anilox roller was half damaged. Special copper or steel brush must be used in a timely manner; high-wire rollers also require ultrasonic cleaning.
Third, the angle of doctor blade angle was incorrect. The angle between the doctor's blade and the angle-roll tangent should be between 25 and 30 degrees. If the angle is too high, the Doctor's blade will vibrate at high speed against the surface of the roller, resulting in inconsistent coating thickness; if the angle is too small, the coating will be unclean, causing the blade filaments to die.
